CONTENT/AIM

The Erasmus Intensive Programme named A “Comparative Study of the contribution of in-between places to urban life "Passing, Passage, Arcades" as semi-public spaces” (TR1-ERA10-36834) relies on the ongoing studies have been done since 2009 by MSFAU and ENSAL basically on notion of “passing”. In 2012, PDT joined and the subject is extended as semi-public places includes transmitting. The basic aim was to study among the intersection of the different scales; architectural and urban scales.

This year the three yeared IP begins in Istanbul with the 15 days workshop. It is a workshop that aims to collect data, accumulate the knowledge in order to compare different forms and make proposals on semi-public transition places in such different cultures and geographies. With the “passing” notion as the main topic, the subtitles can be exemplified as; their formation process during the history, physical features in the city morphology, what are the physical and social determiners compose them, what kind of life do these places carry, how can these traditional/local places change according to today’s expectations and requirements.


It is aimed that, attendant schools to organize student workshops, that is generated by the presentations according to the issue identified every year. In these workshops, the objective is to make the student detect, analyze and suggest spatial designs on the semi-public transition places that are placed in the determined areas. These workshops aim to improve the students’ experiences on developing a solution on a specific area, to make them look from a different perspective towards the issue designing semi-public places.

The final product includes all these data and the suggestions produced during the workshops and meetings of the whole project made every year, will be published.
